Contacts and eye glasses for differing vision needs

Posted under Eye Care by Don

Contacts or contact lenses are used for correcting vision. They also serve therapeutic needs or styling needs. Special vision requirements are met by bifocals, toric lenses and colored opaque lenses. There are disposable contacts for added comfort of use – daily disposables, weekly disposables and monthly disposables are some of them. Daily wear lenses can be used for two to three years and need easy cleaning everyday.

Contact lenses are worn inside the eye by placing them over the cornea. They enhance vision by providing a wide field of vision. They are preferred because they do not change the overall appearance of a person because they are almost invisible. Bifocal lenses are suitable to see far and near; toric lenses are meant for people with astigmatism. With colored lenses in blue, gray, green and brown, people can temporarily alter their eye color.

Glasses known as spectacles or specs are also used to correct vision. They are lenses mounted on a frame and worn in front of the eyes. They can also be used for protecting the eyes from UV rays, too much glare, dust etc. Eyeglasses come with different frame types – metal, plastic, rimless and semi rimless frames. The frames also come in different colors and sizes to choose various facial features. Depending on the suitability of the frames on their looks and comfort, people choose them. Branded glasses are used as exclusive accessories. Sunglasses are used as much for protection as for style. They are commonly used at beaches, sports events and other informal events.
