Eye pain
Posted under Eye CareEye pain can be described as a throbbing, sharp aching in the eye. It should not be confused with sensation caused by some foreign body or superficial irritation. In some cases, bright light worsens the pain. Eye pain could be because of some serious medical problem, hence must not be overlooked and evaluated promptly. Redness of the eye is generally associated with eye pain. Eye pain is broadly categorized into two; corneal abrasion or foreign body sensation. The treatment generally depends on the evaluation of the cause of the pain.
Eye pain and eye strain are terms used interchangeably and are often caused by fatigue, trauma or illness. One of the leading causes of eye pain is eye strain that leads to burning, stabbing or aching sensations in the eye. Eye strain is also caused by extended hours of exposure to poor reading light or long periods of exposure to computer or television screens or print materials. Eye pain could also be a result of some underlying disease which could be additionally associated with itching, minimized vision and increased sensitivity to light.
The treatment of eye pain involves the corrective management of the causes that cause eye strain. Corrective vision aids and treatment of other underlying problems like migraines, headaches and sinus infections are also effective in relieving one from eye pain. In case of strain due to continuous watching of the computer or television screen, immediate relief can be obtained by removing the eyes and focusing them on a distant object. Cold compresses are also effective in some cases. Medical treatment of eye pain involves eye exercises that are specially designed to give strength to weak ocular muscles.
